Fresh air. Great energy. And a real buzz.
That's what a Bike Bus is all about.
Whether you're a parent, teacher or school looking to shake up the school run, we're here to help you get more children walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling together.
With free resources, training and support from Walk Wheel Cycle Trust, starting a Bike Bus is easier than you might think.

What is a Bike Bus?
Too often the school run is stressful. But with a Bike Bus it can be fun.
A Bike Bus is a group of children and adults walking, wheeling, scooting or cycling to school together along a planned route, picking up riders as they go.
It's fun, social and a great way to build cycling into everyday life.
And the best bit? You don't need dozens of riders to get started.
Just a few families and a morning can get your Bike Bus on a roll.

Why you should start a Bike Bus?
A Bike Bus is much more than getting from A to B.
Children arrive at school awake, energised and ready for the day ahead.
Families and communities spend time together and new friendships are formed.
School gates become a little less congested.
A Bike Bus is everything — it's joy, community, physical activity, it gives children confidence and protects our environment.
Ready to get your Bike Bus on a roll? It's easy to do.
1. Find five
You don't need a huge group; start with finding five people to join. If you've got two or more families, you've got a Bike Bus.
2. Pick a route and stops
Choose a route that is easy to follow and takes around 10-30 minutes. Think straight roads, safe stopping and meeting points and as little turns as possible.
3. Hold a FRideDays Bike Bus
Many schools start with one Friday a month before building up their schedule. But it can be any day that you get your Bike Bus on a roll. The important thing is getting started and finding a schedule that works for you.
4. Spread the word
Let people know about your Bike Bus — how they can join, volunteer or find out more. Think school newsletters, WhatsApp groups, playground conversations or social media; all help to bring new riders on board.
You can find out more useful tips on this in our guide below.
5. Keep the momentum going
Celebrate every ride, share photos, welcome newcomers and watch the community grow. We recommend setting up an online group to keep everyone up to date with any changes.

We're supporting communities across the UK to set up their own Bike Bus. More and more parents and young people want to change how they travel to school. And Bike Buses allow families to walk, wheel, scoot or cycle safely to school together.
