Scotland National Cycle Network closures and diversions
We encourage local authorities and other statutory bodies responsible for land traversed by the National Cycle Network to use their powers to keep National Cycle Network routes open, free from obstruction and well maintained.
Where routes are temporarily closed we ask that they make appropriate arrangements, including appropriate directional signage, and that they provide information to the public both before and during the work.
If we are notified we do our best to help by listing issues on this page and linking to the information they provide.

Current closures and diversions
Kiltwalk 2026 dates are listed below. Please note that the National Cycle Network will be busy on these days and plan your route accordingly.

Route 1: Spey Viaduct, Garmouth. Moray Council
Closure: 14 December until further notice.
Spey Viaduct has collapsed into the River Spey and resulted in the immediate closure of this section of NCN 1 .
The nearest river crossing is 6 kilometres south, near Fochabers, accessible via the B9104 road, the Speyside Way (rooty, trodden path in parts), or Gordon Castle Estate roads and tracks.
Users can return to the NCN 1 route at Garmouth via Stynie Road or the B9105 in Mosstodloch, or continue to Lhanbryde and Elgin via the shared-use path along the A96, though this involves crossing the trunk road twice.

Route 1: Forth Road Bridge: Closure. BEAR Scotland
Closure: 29 October - 2 November 2025.
BEAR Scotland, acting on behalf of Transport Scotland, is planning to carry out full night-time closures of the Forth Road Bridge during the nights of Wednesday 29th, Thursday 30th of October between 21:30 and 05:00 to remove all existing traffic management from the bridge.
There will also be a full Forth Road Bridge closure between Friday 31st of October at 09:30 to Sunday 2nd of November at 05:00. This is to facilitate the Supernova Running Charity Event.
During the full closures, the bus stops at the North will be relocated to Ferrytoll park and ride and the South to the existing bust stop on Builyeon Road, next to the BP Garage.
During this period of closure, a signed diversion route will be in place. Motorway Traffic will be diverted via the Queensferry Crossing, and non-motorway traffic via Kincardine Bridge. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Route 7: Former Exxon site outside Bowling/Dumbarton: Diversion. West Dunbartonshire Council
Diversion: 17 November 2025 - 12 November 2026.
Construction works are ongoing at the former Exxon industrial site outside Bowling/Dumbarton, meaning it is necessary to divert the NCN7 cycle path along a temporary route. This diversion is expected to be in place for 12 months.
Route 7: Tomatin and Moy: Diversion. The Highland Council / Balfour Beatty
Diversion: 29 August 2025 - 31 May 2028.
NCN 7 between Tomatin and Moy is diverted around the A9 dualling works, from July 2025 until ‘end of Spring 2028’. A signed diversion is in place, crossing the A9 near Dalmagarry Quarry.
Route 7: Logierait Viaduct
Diversion: 3 August 2026 – 11 September 2026
Logierait Viaduct will be closed for essential works from Monday 3 August 2026 to Friday 11 September 2026. It will not be possible to cross the viaduct at any point during these works.
Signed diversions will be in place via Dunkeld using NCN77 west of the River Tay and RCR83 east of the River Tay. Note that use of RCR83 will require users to dismount and proceed on foot in places, see signage in situ.

The Lochs and Glens Way
The temporary closure of Logierait Viaduct impacts The Lochs and Glens Way . A signed diversion will be in place between Kenmore and Pitlochry via the Foss Road, see ORS Maps .
Pitlochry can be bypassed between Kenmore and Dalnacardoch, see ORS Maps . Note that this route will not have diversion signage.
Route 73: Arran ferry (Ardrossan to Brodick) - (Route 73 northern section, Kilmarnock - Lochranza). Caledonian MacBrayne
Notice: This ferry is currently running from Troon. Those wishing to take bikes on the Troon to Brodick/Arran ferry should be aware that CalMac may limit access on particularly busy sailings. Group rides should telephone to check for details.
Route 75: Almond Feeder Aqueduct: Diversion. West Lothian Council / Scottish Canals
Diversion: 13 October 2025 - ongoing
Following the latest principal inspection of the cast iron Almond Feeder Aqueduct, concerns have been raised about deterioration of the structure and potential worsening of cracking.
The decision has been taken to close the structure to pedestrians and cyclists until a full structural assessment can be carried out during the week beginning Monday 20 October.
Barriers and diversion signing will be installed to guide users to the footbridge about 80m downstream. Scottish Canals can be contacted for further updates and information on the issue.
Route 75: Hillend Reservoir, Caldercruix: Intermittent flooding along path, traffic-free route may be impassable following heavy rainfall
Notice: Following heavy rainfall, users may experience intermittent flooding affecting the traffic-free stretch of National Cycle Network Route 75 bordering Hillend Reservoir in Caldercruix, North Lanarkshire (location) .
Route 78/Great Glen Way: SSE Coire Glas to Loch Lochy
A signposted, long-term diversion is in place until June 2029 to facilitate exploratory works at the hydro scheme by SSE.
Diversion: 2022 - June 2029.
A temporary diversion is in place on Route 78 at Loch Lochy whilst exploratory works are underway for Coire Glas Hydro scheme. The diversion is well signposted and suitable for walking and cycling, though some surfacing and gradients are not NCN standard.
